This is HOME from the Ithaca Voice. A series about the past, present and future of Ithaca's housing crisis.

For the last decade or so housing costs and rent have continued to rise, bringing us to a point where some have even made the decision to leave the city altogether. But how did we get here?

In Part 1, we examine what has led to the current state of the local housing market. Why is it so expensive to live in the city, and how have the demographics of the neighborhoods changed?

In Part 2, we examine not only the present and what people are trying to do to make housing more equitable, but also pose the question of “where do we go from here?”

This project was supported in part by Cornell University’s David M. Einhorn Center for Community Engagement.
